2023 at Star Bereavement …

As 2023 draws to a close, here’s everything Star Bereavement got up to this year!

Before we start, we owe a massive thank you to supporters that have raised money for us and held collection tins so thank you to:

HHGlobal, Sabees Ltd, Car Shop Wakefield, Pink Fizz Boutique Horbury, Pear Tree Horbury, Made and Found Yorkshire, Carltons Chemist, Ridley and Hall Solicitors, Dewsbury Dental Centre, UoH Swift Society, Lucas’ Totally Wired Fundraiser at The Hop, Jade’s Fundraiser, everyone at Star Fest and many more…

This year has been a big year for Star Bereavement – we’ve moved offices to our new base at 2 Navigation Walk and raised £24,427.21 through our new community fundraiser, public events, and company fundraisers. We’ve also received a number of incredible gift donations from companies like Really Useful Products Ltd, HH Global, as well as a printed car from The Car Shop Wakefield that was designed by Star’s young people that is now parked in their storefront at Calder Island!

We’ve moved around a lot this year, holding groups and events all over Wakefield and its surrounding areas. We’ve held groups from the centre of Wakefield, as well as to Airedale, Pontefract, and Kirklees, working in places such as The Ridings, Camphill Wakefield, The Art House, Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Pugneys and many other locations.

In 2023, we’ve continued to provide support to the bereaved children and young people of Wakefield in many different formats – over the phone, 1:1, group support and peer support.

In total, our practitioners have completed:

  • 194 background calls
  • 418 1:1 support sessions
  • 20 professional support calls
  • 58 group support sessions

There have been 276 new referrals to our service in 2023!

To support our service and allow us to provide support to the young people who need it most, you can donate to us via the JustGiving link on this website or get involved and volunteer with us in 2024! Any contribution to our charity is greatly appreciated.  Help us help each bereaved young person access the support they need.

If you or your child or young person have accessed our service in 2023, we invite you to leave some feedback on our online forum that can be found on this website – we’d love to hear from you!

We’ll be closed over the Christmas period on the 25th and 26th December and the 1st January – if you find yourself needing support or someone to talk to during this time, these are the helplines that remain open over Christmas and the new year:

Samaritans – 116 123
