An announcement – Chair of trustees at Star Bereavement

Following four successful years as Chair of Star Bereavement Support Service, Suzanne Gahlings, will be stepping down from the role.

During her time as Chair, Suzanne has worked extremely hard to:

  1. Steady the ship and take it into calmer waters
  2. Establish a fully functional and delivering organisation
  3. Grow and build board capacity and governance
  4. Secure funding to provide ongoing bereavement support services for Children and Young People in the Wakefield District
  5. Represent, lobby and educate in these often difficult areas, bringing the needs of bereaved children and young people to decision makers
  6. Gain recognition for Star and the amazing work it does
  7. Grow an organisation which is recognised for its high quality work
  8. Put Star firmly on the map in Wakefield

Her tenacity, passion and commitment has been unquestionable and she is keen to see the organisation grow from strength to strength, but feels it is time for someone new to take the organisation forward to the next stage.

Star is pleased to announce the appointment of Grainne Cuerden as the new Chair of Trustees at Star Bereavement. Grainne brings a wealth of experience and skill in senior management, quality and compliance, service transformation and strategy and we are looking forward to working together- we extend a warm welcome to Grainne as she joins the team.

Meanwhile on behalf of the Board, Claire and the Team, we would like to sincerely Thank Suzanne for all her hard work, commitment and support and hope when the time comes, you will join us to celebrate Suzanne’s time with Star, as she has been a true Star!
